Flat Rate Email Recovery and Configuration

There are different ways people get their email. Some have a free email account like aol.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com, or sbcglobal.net, just to name a few. For the most part people get onto the Internet and log into their web mail account to get their emails. This is a very safe way to use your email because you don’t have to rely on your personal computer to retrieve and store your emails. As long as you have access to a computer that has an Internet connection you can read and send your emails.

If you have a business you probably have a web site like www.cheap-pc-fix.com. Having your own web site enables you to have emails with your own domain name like repair@cheap-pc-fix.com. This is more professional than having a business email with a @aol.com, @hotmail.com, or @yahoo.com. Plus it is easier to have a personalized email when you have your on domain name. Say your name is John Smith, you probably cannot get an email like jsmith@aol.com or with any other free email provider. Having your own domain name, you can literally have any email name you want that ends with your own domain name. Also, you can use Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or any other email application to handle your email or emails, even if you use more than one yourself. You can configure Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail to receive and sent emails for multiple email accounts.

You may ask, “Why would I want to use Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail”? Instead of having to bring up a web browser, browse to where your email is being hosted, and logging into your email account, Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail automatically retrieves your emails for you by default every 10 minutes. All you have to do is open it up. You can change that email receiving time to any amount of time you would like. Plus Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail has extra features that a free email account might not have. If you have your own domain and you have employees that you have created emails for, you will probably want to configure Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail to retrieve their emails.

With Outlook, the emails are stored in one .pst file, and sometimes an .ost file. So, if your computer goes down, if your computer crashes, or if you are unable to log into your operating system, you cannot retrieve your emails. You should be backing up your .pst and .ost files to an external hard drive, or at least a different hard drive other than the one holding your operating system. Not only are the emails saved in the .pst file, but your Tasks, Calendar, and Contacts are also saved in that .pst file. Where is the .pst file located? It depends on the operating system. If you use XP, the path is, C:\Documents and Settings\”User”\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. If you use Vista, the path is, C:\Users\”User”\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook. There is a way not to lose any of your Inbox emails using Outlook. In the advanced settings tab, there is a check box to “leave a copy of your messages on the server”. If you have this box checked, you will have a copy of all your emails that were sent to you saved on the email sever. So even if your hard drive crashes, all your emails will be saved and all the emails that are sent to you while your computer is down are collected. With Outlook Express, your Outlook Express emails, Outlook Express address book, and Outlook Express folders are stored in multiple files in your “User” folder in the Documents and Settings folder. By default the path to the store folder for Outlook Express is C:\Documents and Settings\”User”\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\”{Random number and letters}”\Microsoft\Outlook Express. To find out exactly what the path is to your Outlook Express emails, Outlook Express address book, and Outlook Express folders, open up your Outlook Express and click on “Tools”, then click on “Options”. In the “Options” window click on the “Maintenance” tab and finally click on the “Store Folder” button. The Outlook Express “Store Location” window will pop up and show you the path to your Outlook Express emails, Outlook Express address book, and Outlook Express folders so you can then copy them to a flash drive or an external drive. You should copy the entire Outlook Express folder, not just the files that are inside. Sometimes your Outlook Express emails can become corrupted. We can import your Outlook Express emails and address book into either of Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows 7 version of Windows Mail. You must import your Outlook Express emails, address book, and folders into Windows mail if your new computer has Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows 7 installed because Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows 7 cannot use Outlook Express.

As mentioned above, the last two Microsoft Windows operating systems, Vista and Windows 7, did not come with or use Outlook Express. Microsoft created a new email application called Windows Mail. Windows mail is the next generation of Outlook Express, but is not as good as Outlook, in our opinion. Think about it, why would Microsoft sell Microsoft Office, which comes with Outlook, for about $250 if Windows Mail was as good or better? Don’t get us wrong, Windows Mail works perfectly fine retrieving and reading your emails, but if you need Word and Excel might as well use Outlook if it comes with your Microsoft Office software.
